Unlocking Renewable Energy Investments in Africa

Cape Town, South Africa: 7 May 2024 – As the global community intensifies efforts to combat climate change and transition towards sustainable energy sources, Africa stands at a pivotal crossroads in unlocking its renewable energy potential. With abundant natural resources and growing energy demand, the continent presents a unique opportunity for renewable energy investments that can drive economic growth, enhance energy security, and mitigate environmental impacts.

In recognition of this opportunity, the 17th annual Africa Energy Indaba is proud to continue its commitment to unlocking renewable energy investments in Africa through an Energy Projects Dealroom Programme.   This initiative aims to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy projects across the continent by addressing key barriers and catalysing private sector participation.

The Energy Projects Dealroom will focus on the following strategic areas:

1.      Energy Project Pitch Presentations:  Presenting energy projects from across Africa and inviting interested developers, financiers, EPC contractors, etc. to participate and access the business opportunity linked to the project.

2.      Policy and Regulatory Support: Working closely with governments and regulatory authorities to create an enabling policy environment that incentivises renewable energy investments, streamlines permitting processes, and ensures fair market access for renewable energy developers.

3.      Project Development and Financing: Providing technical assistance and financial support to renewable energy projects at various stages of development, from feasibility studies and project design to financing and implementation, to attract investment and de-risk projects for investors.

4.      Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing: Building local capacity and expertise in renewable energy project development, financing, and management through training programs, knowledge sharing platforms, and partnerships with educational institutions and industry associations.

5.      Market Development and Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitating market development by fostering collaboration among stakeholders, promoting renewable energy technologies and solutions, and raising awareness about the economic, social, and environmental benefits of renewable energy.

“We believe that renewable energy holds the key to unlocking Africa’s energy potential and driving sustainable development across the continent,” said Liz Hart, Managing Director of the Africa Energy Indaba.  “Through the Energy Projects Dealroom we are committed to mobilising resources, linking businesses to the market opportunity, forging partnerships, and catalysing action to accelerate the transition to clean, affordable, and reliable energy in Africa.”

The Africa Energy Indaba invites governments, development partners, investors, renewable energy developers, and other stakeholders to join us in our efforts to unlock renewable energy investments in Africa and build a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
