The African Atlantic Gas Pipeline: An Example of the Royal Vision for an Integrated Africa

The Atlantic gas pipeline project, a collaboration between Morocco and Nigeria, perfectly illustrates King Mohammed VI’s strategic vision for a united and integrated Africa. This partnership aims to develop growth projects that benefit the entire continent.

Benefits for 13 African Countries and Europe

Speaking at the 10th Geopolitical Meetings in Trouville, France, Amina Benkhadra, Director General of the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM), highlighted the importance of the project. The pipeline will meet the energy and electricity needs of approximately 400 million people across 13 countries. It will also boost key sectors, such as the mining industry.

According to Ms. Benkhadra, the project’s advantages go beyond socio-economic benefits for Africa. It will also position the continent as a major player in Europe’s energy security, providing a new supply source and diversifying its resources.

Project Progress

The project is moving forward, with several engineering and environmental impact studies already completed. Following the signing of the official treaty, the next step will be the creation of a dedicated company to oversee the construction phases.

The ONHYM director emphasized that Morocco, thanks to its geographic location, existing infrastructure, and future projects, is positioned as a crucial energy corridor between Africa and Europe.
