Energy in Ivory Coast : Washington Commits $322 Million via the MCC

To strengthen the energy sector in Ivory Coast, the United States, through the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), has established a new partnership. An agreement worth $322 million was signed in Abidjan, with the United States committing $300 million and the remainder funded by Ivory Coast.

Objectives of the Collaboration

This partnership aims to reinforce Ivory Coast’s position as a regional energy hub in West Africa. It also seeks to support the country’s capacity to export electricity beyond the six nations that already benefit from its power supply.

Background of the Agreement

The signing of this new agreement, ratified by the Ivorian Minister of Finance and Budget and the MCC Vice President, marks the conclusion of the previous bilateral compact, valued at $536 million, which was signed in 2017. Ivorian Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé praised the strong and dynamic relations between the two countries.
